Twice as much heating assistance headed to vermont!

As reported in the October 9, 2008 issue of the Burlington Free Press:

Vermont’s congressional trio stood before an audience of elders and toddlers at a multigenerational center in Burlington to report they had delivered on a promise.

In the face of current economic crisis and recession, they said they succeeded in winning twice as much funding for low income home energy assistance as in past years. Congress recently approved $5.1 billion — with Vermont’s share estimated at $35 million. That up from $17 million last winter!

Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., introduced the legislation and kept a spotlight on the need throughout the summer and fall, Sen. Patrick Leahy, D-Vt., told the audience. Rep. Peter Welch, D-Vt. , sponsored the bill in the U.S House.
